These chocolate truffles are made with Oreo cookies and cream cheese, then dunked in white chocolate and dark chocolate. They are made special for Halloween by shaping the truffle dough into ghosts and chocolate balls decorated with Halloween sprinkles. Oreo truffles are incredibly easy to make and they are so addictingly good!

Oreo truffles seem to all follow the same base recipe with slight variations and involve different decorating methods tailored to different themes. That is one of the most fun aspects about easy Oreo truffles because you can make them any style you want including different colors, decorations, and shapes!

Chocolate Oreo Truffle Ingredients
Chocolate Oreo truffles are made with only a few ingredients and can be customized depending on your theme.

- Oreo cookies - regular, not double stuf!
- cream cheese
- pinch of salt
- Halloween sprinkles
- chocolate
- You can use white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or semi-sweet chocolate. My favorite would be white chocolate and dark chocolate!
- For dipping the Oreo truffles, you can use chocolate chips or the chocolate that is already made to melt down easily. Keep in mind if using solid chocolate - it needs to be tempered. In real specialty chocolate truffles, they will use this method - however we are making simple and quick Oreo truffles, so the easiest fool proof method is the melting wafers - Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers are my favorite and they taste great compared to some other brands I've tried. You can also use chocolate chips if you prefer, but you'll melt it down slowly in 15-20 second increments and add in 1 teaspoon of neutral oil to make the chocolate into a dipping consistency. It is more tempermental and the chocolate chips can seize up if overheated which is another reason I don't recommend this method for beginners.
- The melting wafers method is best for beginners or when kids are assisting because the Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers are nearly fool proof and quicker to melt down. These are found at most grocery stores in the baking aisle and they are usually called chocolate melting wafers or chocolate coating bricks and they are already formulated to melt down easily without burning the chocolate in the microwave.
How to Make Chocolate Oreo Truffles
Making Chocolate Oreo Truffles for Halloween is so fun because you can decorate them in so many different ways. You can dye the chocolate with chocolate coloring and make pumpkins, Frankensteins, cauldrons, skulls, and more! I used white chocolate to create the ghosts and semi-sweet chocolate for the chocolate Halloween truffles.

Step 2: Add in the cream cheese and pinch of salt and process until a smooth uniform dough forms.

Step 3: Measure out 1.5 tablespoon sized scoops and roll into balls and/or shape the truffle dough into ghost shapes (kind of like a rounded tip triangle). Set on a parchment paper lined plate or cookie sheet. Chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour.

Step 4: Shape the truffle dough into ghosts and roll into balls. You can make all ghosts or mix in chocolate truffle balls, which is what I like to do as well. To shape the ghosts, make a simple triangle shape by using the curve inside your thumb and index finger while pressing down/pinching the dough with your other hand. The ghost shape is simple, a rounded tip triangle shape. Place the tray of shaped truffles into the refrigerator for at least 1 hour before dipping in chocolate.

Step 5: Melt the Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers until smooth, then dunk the formed Oreo truffle dough into the chocolate, coating it evenly and gently shaking off the excess, then set on parchment paper to set/harden. To make the ghost eyes, use small black circle or sphere sprinkles and for the mouth use a chocolate sprinkle jimmie! Finding a curved one for the mouth looks super cute! Be sure to place the sprinkles right away so they stick to the chocolate coating before it dries!

Step 6: Dunk the chocolate balls into melted chocolate. Wait a few minutes for it to dry and then drizzle the melted chocolate back over top in quick back and forth motions to create a streaked effect. Top with Halloween sprinkles while the chocolate drizzle is still wet so that the sprinkles stick!

Variations of Oreo Truffles
The flexibility in flavoring, decorating, and tailoring Oreo truffles is what makes them so fun to make!
- Different Oreo flavors - You can use this same recipe with any flavor of Oreo cookies!
- Different Chocolate Coatings - Use white chocolate, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or semi-sweet chocolate. My favorite would be white chocolate and dark chocolate as far as flavor goes! The contrast of the white chocolate coating to the dark chocolate inside of the truffle is also very aesthetically satisfying if I do say so myself!
- Theme your truffles! - Customize the homemade Oreo truffles by
- Decorate! - Easily decorate the truffles in many different ways by drizzling chocolate over top or using a variety of different spinkles. You can dye the white chocolate melting wafers and match your any theme colors! Be sure to use an oil based food dye that is made for chocolate such as Colour Mill Oil Based Food Coloring. If you use regular food colors that are not oil based it can seize your chocolate.
- Toppings - Top the truffles with spinkles, crushed candies, cereals, freeze dried strawberries/fruit, coconut shreds, nuts, and more!
Regardless of the version you decide to make, these Oreo cookie truffles are sure to please a crowd and would be greatly appreciated at your next Halloween party paired on top of a fun Halloween Grazing Board!

Equipment for Oreo Truffles
Equipment needed to make Oreo truffles is pretty simple. I highly recommend using a food processer for the best consistency and quickest method. A food processer allows you to reach smooth truffle cookie dough consistency within minutes.
However, if you do not have a food processor, you can crush up the Oreos by using a rolling pin and rolling them out on a clean surface over and over again until you are left with fine crumbs. Then once you have fine crumbs, mix the softened cream cheese in with a spoon until a completely uniform dough forms. This method will take longer.
You will also need a microwave to melt the Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers and different mixing bowls for different chocolates. I would recommend using a cookie sheet or large plate covered with parchment paper to let the truffles chill in the refrigerator on and to set after they're dipped in chocolate.
I use a fork to dunk my truffles into the melted chocolate, but you can also use a toothpick or other utensils.

How to Store Oreo Truffles
Store the finished Oreo truffles in the refrigerator in an airtight container until ready to serve. They are best kept refrigerated due to the cream cheese. They stay fresh for up to 5-7 days in the refrigerator so long as the cream cheese used was fresh and does not expire within that time frame.

Top Tip
Using a cookie scoop to scoop the dough makes it easy to make evenly sized truffles. If you want to get super technical, weigh each truffle with a digital food scale prior to dunking in chocolate to ensure each truffle is the same size.

Halloween Chocolate Oreo Truffles
Equipment
- food processer
- cookie scoop or spoon
- microwave for melting chocolate coating/wafers
Ingredients
- 36 regular oreo cookies (one 14.3oz package of regular Oreos, NOT double stuf)
- 8 ounces cream cheese
- pinch of salt
- 10 ounces white chocolate melting wafers (You can also use white chocolate chips melted with 1-2 teaspoons of vegetable oil)
- 10 ounces chocolate melting wafers (dark, milk, or semi-sweet) (Ghirardelli chocolate melting wafers are my fave!)
- Halloween sprinkles (including chocolate sprinkle jimmies and round black sprinkles for the ghost's eyes and smiles)
Instructions
- Place 36 regular Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until crushed into fine crumbs. This does not take long, only 30-60 seconds total.
- Cut the cream cheese block into large chunks and place in the food processer. Process for around 30 seconds until a dough like consistency forms.
- Scoop out around 1½ Tablespoon amount of truffle dough and shape into the truffle. If you're doing the simple truffle sphere shape, you can just roll it in between your palms to form a ball. To do the ghost shape, you simple make a triangle shape and round the pointed end. I find it easiest to use the inner curve of my hand between the index finger and thumb to create the perfect rounded top!
- Place formed truffles onto a parchment lined sheet pan or large plate/platter. Once all the truffles are formed, place the truffles into the refrigerator for AT LEAST one hour to chill before coating with chocolate.
- When the truffles have chilled, melt the white chocolate wafers into a microwave safe bowl per the instructions on the package. Usually you will melt them slowly by heating in small increments in the microwave - avoid overcooking/burning.
- Use a fork or toothpick to help you dunk the ghost shaped truffles into the white chocolate coating, gently shaking off excess chocolate, then placing back onto the parchment lined sheet/platter.
- To make the ghost eyes, use small black circle or sphere sprinkles and for the mouth use a chocolate sprinkle jimmie! Finding a curved one for the mouth looks super cute! Be sure to place the sprinkles right away so they stick to the chocolate coating before it dries!
- After finishing with the ghosts, melt the semi-sweet or dark chocolate wafers into a microwave safe bowl following the instructions on the package. Then dunk the truffle balls into the chocolate, evenly coating in chocolate and gently shaking off the excess, then placing on the parchment paper. Repeat until all of the chocolate balls are coated.
- Allow them to harden up a bit and then taking a spoon or fork, dip the tip into the melted chocolate and drizzle the chocolate back and forth over top of the truffles creating a 3D chocolate drizzled look. Sprinkle over Halloween sprinkles before the chocolate drizzle sets and let dry completely before enjoying!
