Instructions
Dog Birthday Cake
Preheat oven to 350℉. Line a 6" cake pan with parchment paper and grease with coconut oil or a dog safe nonstick baking oil spray. Set aside.
Shred carrots in a food processor or grate them with a cheese grater. Set aside. Alternatively you can use pre-shredded carrots.
In a bowl, whisk together egg, applesauce, and melted coconut oil.
Add in oat flour and turmeric, then fold into the wet ingredients to combine fully. Batter will be thick. Then add in the water and mix to thin out the batter.
Lastly, fold in the shredded carrots (up to 1 full cup, but save a few tablespoons for decorative topping if desired).
Pour dog cake batter into prepared baking pan and bake for 20-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean (a few crumbs is fine, just no wet cake batter).
Let cake cool in pan before removing and transferring to a wire rack or plate to cool completely before frosting.
Dog Birthday Cake Frosting
In a bowl, measure out equal parts dog safe natural peanut butter and plain unsweetened Greek yogurt. Mix together until fully uniform.
Spread the dog frosting evenly on the cooled cake. Additionally, put some frosting in a piping bag fitted with a star piping tip and pipe a decorate border or swirls on the cake. Top with remaining shredded carrots or dog safe toppings if desired. Slice individual servings (size appropriately for your own individual dog) and enjoy!

Notes
Only use dog safe ingredients. It is especially important to only use natural creamy peanut butter that does not have xylitol or any added ingredients. Please also check the yogurt you are using and make sure it is plain with no added ingredients, especially sugar substitutes. This also means ensuring that any additional treat, fruit, or vegetable you may add to the recipe or include for decoration must be something that is dog safe. Every dog handles foods differently so even if they are dog safe, they could still cause digestive upset. Some dogs are more sensitive than others, it is up to you to know your dog and the foods they can handle. Feed at your own risk. Please know your own individual dog's diet and what is best for YOUR dog. This cake is NOT intended to be served all in one sitting. It makes a 6" size round cake and should be split into individual serving pieces. The serving size is dependent upon your own dog. The size of a dog plays a huge role in the amount of food they should consume on a daily. Please consult your veterinarian and/or a pet nutritionist to know the correct serving sizes for your dogs and daily caloric intake. I am NOT a pet nutritionist. I cannot stress this enough. KNOW YOUR OWN DOG. What works for my dogs might not work for yours. My dogs are very large and I consider their sizes/daily diets when determining the serving size to share with them. Even on their birthdays when I want to give them a little extra exciting treat, I ensure I only share a small amount each. I certainly would not want to make them sick by consuming too much doggy cake! I split this cake in 6-8 slices and my dogs are large breed (75lbs, 80lbs, and 120lbs). When I share this cake with my mom's dogs who are much smaller (15lbs) I only share 1-2 tablespoons of the cake with them. Please be considerate to your individual dog when deciding on how much to serve in one sitting. I save the rest of the cake in the refrigerator and the dogs eat it in small servings over a period of a few days, up to a week.
