Caramel Apple Cider Margarita Ingredients
This caramel apple margarita recipe is a sweet caramel twist on a classic margarita. Therefore, you'll need traditional margarita ingredients like tequila, Cointreau, and lime juice, with the addition of apple cider and caramel flavored liqueur. We also add a fun thick caramel dipped rim, with a dash of flaky sea salt, and an optional caramel apple wedge.

- Reposado tequila
- Cointreau or triple sec
- apple cider
- freshly squeezed lime juice
- caramel liqueur
- caramel sauce (optional)
- flaky sea salt (optional)
If you'd like to make your own homemade caramel sauce, we have the perfect recipe here on Baking Guilty. Keep in mind this homemade caramel recipe makes a double batch, so you'll want to halve the ingredients and only make one batch - unless you want extra caramel for later (it's delicious and can literally be eaten by the spoonful!)

How to Make Caramel Apple Cider Margaritas
Step 1: You'll start by preparing the garnish (if using) by slicing a granny smith apple into wedges and drizzling with caramel sauce.
Step 2: Then prep the two margarita glasses by rimming each glass with caramel sauce and a sprinkle of flaky sea salt. Fill with ice and set aside. I like to chill the glasses in the freezer while I mix up the margaritas.
Step 3: In a cocktail shaker, add apple cider, Reposado tequila, Cointreau/triple sec, caramel liqueur, and freshly squeezed lime juice. Fill with ice, then shake vigorously until the liquids are all combined - about 10 seconds.
Step 4: Using the strainer on top of the cocktail shaker, pour margarita mix in prepared margarita glasses over ice, dividing evenly.
Step 5: Add caramel apple skewer (if adding). Enjoy!

Variations for Caramel Apple Cider Margaritas
There are a couple variations and substitutions that can be made in this caramel apple margarita recipe.
- If you do not have Reposado tequila, you can use another tequila of your choice. We like to use Reposado because it has smooth notes of vanilla and caramel. Reposado tequila is aged for a minimum of two months.
- You can omit the caramel liqueur all together, but this recipe calls for it as it adds s subtle hint of sweet caramel flavor which perfectly compliments the tang of the apple cider. With that being said, I've made these apple cider margaritas without the caramel liqueur and they're still just as great.
- Whatever you do, please DO NOT use apple juice instead of apple cider. Apple cider is made with pressed apples and is usually unfiltered and often times it is unpasteurized (depends on where you get it from, but we always get ours from a local apple orchard and cider mill). Apple cider is tangier and so much more potent and fresh than store bought juice. It also typically does not have preservatives and additives like many apple juices do. Cider has a bite to it when you drink it, making it the perfect sweet compliment to a cocktail.
- You can also omit the salted caramel rim, but if you do choose to adorn the glass this way, you can check out our favorite homemade caramel sauce recipe, where we go over all the tips and tricks to making homemade caramel sauce. Keep in mind if you're making caramel for these margaritas, you will need to prep it well in advance so that it has time to cool and thicken up a little bit as well while the sauce cools.
